SoundMan is for the AC97 audio cards commonly found in laptops nowadays- it needs to be enabled in order for the sound card functionalities to remain. if you do not use the sound card options to enhance the sounds on your system, it should be safe to disable this option, but remember that if you are experiencing any sound related issue, this disabled item could be causing it!

 I have this file. I have the Realtek AC'97 files as well as the files for the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card. Kind of wondered why I need Realtek, you would think everything would be covered under the directory for the sound card itself. |

Once you install the drivers and your audio is working, you can go into MSConfig and uncheck SOUNDMAN, so it does not start with Windows.

Soundman is an application driver for audio.
This app generally safe, but can be turned off as it was not vital |
