Services Manager

Important: This tool is not available for Windows versions that don't use services (Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows ME).

The Services Manager allows you to easily take control of programs that are automatically started each time you use your computer. Services are important programs that are started before any other Windows program. They usually take care of networking, web publishing, firewalls, etc. You must read very carefully each service's description before deciding whether you can stop it or not.

For more safety some services can not be stopped at all. :) In case you start or stop a service that causes your Windows not to respond anymore a computer restart will solve the problem. When you stop a service we recommend you to test Windows and all programs that might depend on that service. In case everything is OK you may choose to never start this service again (see the Properties button and choose Disabled or Manual as starting options).

Some services depend on other in order to start. This means that if you will try to start the service A which depends on service B, you won't be able to do this; you will have to start service B first.

We created a profiles list that contains the most important configurations that can be found today. When you first run the Services manager tool your initial configuration is added to this list so that in case you will make a mistake you will be able to restore your services' settings to their initial state.

You can create your own profiles, edit and delete existing profiles (except for the predefined ones and for the initial profile named Original settings).

Note: In the Profiles Editor none of the predefined profiles can be edited for safety reasons. If you want to save your own profile please take the following steps:

  1. Stop / start all services that you want

  2. Click on the "Save profile to list" button (the same button is located on both Profiles Editor and Services Editor tabs).

The new profile will be then listed in the Available Profiles list. If you want to modify it's name and description you can use the "Edit profile" button.
